5 Common Misconceptions about skin care

Skincare is a vital part of our regular routine. But there are multiple misconceptions revolving around skincare. Some of us often get swayed by these misconceptions, which lead to more skin damage and aging. Are you overconfident about your skin and skincare? Stop right there!

Because all the products you have been applying on your face might not be the “right one” for you. You might be astonished by knowing how much common knowledge about keeping your skin crystal-clear and hydrated is simply misleading! So, below are the 5 most common misconceptions about skincare, which you must follow at any cost.

Myth #1: You don’t have to moisturize your skin if it’s naturally oily

As per the current dermatologist opinion, it is the most detrimental skincare misconception. If it’s naturally oily, you can skip applying a moisturizer in the daily skincare routine. But moisturizer helps safeguard your skin from environmental effects, such as UV rays and pollutants. These can shatter the skin barrier. On the other hand, moisturized skin can end up causing irritation and surging oil production. If you have oily skin, you may use a water-based moisturizer for an extra lightweight effect.

Myth #2: Apply sunscreen only when it’s sunny outside

UV rays are permeable, and they can penetrate through clouds and during overcast days. Therefore, it’s necessary to apply sunscreen every day, irrespective of the weather. Moreover, you must reapply sunscreen after 3-4 hours a day.

Myth #3: Chemical-free or natural products are better

Natural products might not be the ideal choice for you based on the products you’re using or your skin type. Specific skin types & conditions need the chemicals discovered in dermatological products, which help cure the skin. Moreover, natural products attract mold and bacteria more rapidly than regular products with chemicals.

Myth #4: Antibacterial soap is perfect for keeping your skin clear and clean

Skin usually contains bacteria on it. Hence, it’s difficult to keep your skin free of bacteria. Skincare professionals are concerned that applying antibacterial soap might lead to more antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Moreover, these are not essential for daily use. You may use a face wash or a regular soap to keep your skin clean. Consistent and thorough hand-washing helps impede the infection from spreading.

Myth #5: Pricey skincare products are better

Price isn’t the benchmark of the quality or effectiveness of a product. Several budget-friendly skincare options are as efficient as their expensive ones. Hence, it’s crucial to concentrate on the formulation and ingredients of a product instead of its price tag. You must always opt for natural, green, and vegan skincare products rather than buying synthetic counterparts.

You should be conscious of several inconsistencies between skincare and skincare products. These misconceptions involve the ideas that using sunscreen all year round and keeping eye creams colder can help with under-eye swelling.

Whatever the circumstance, certain myths may be true, while others must be changed for the best possible skin treatment. A dermatologist might be helpful if you have queries or worries regarding your skin.
